About us
The Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of Gujarat (CPSFG) is an autonomous body that regulates and conducts sports events for people with cerebral palsy across Gujarat.
Who we are
Cerebral palsy affects how a person moves, and it affects everyone differently. Sport should still be open to all of them. Our job is to make sure athletes with cerebral palsy have well run events to compete in, clear rules, and a fair place to test themselves.
We are based in Porbandar, at Shree Bhartiya Pragnachakshu Gurukul, and we work with athletes, families and coaches from across the state.
Our history
Mr. Bharatbhai Thakkar (Founder, Ahmedabad) and Mr. Kamleshbhai Khokhari (Founder, Porbandar), along with their associates, played a pivotal role in establishing the Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of Gujarat. At the time, when the Sports Authority of Gujarat organised a Special Khel Mahakumbh for athletes with various disabilities, persons with cerebral palsy competed alongside those with orthopaedic disabilities. Recognising the need for a specialised focus, the founders presented a strong case to the authorities for a separate and independent Special Khel Mahakumbh dedicated exclusively to cerebral palsy.
The Sports Authority of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, accepted the proposal in acknowledgement of the distinct requirements of athletes with cerebral palsy. The Government of Gujarat then entrusted the newly formed Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of Gujarat with organising sports activities for this group, creating the country’s first sports federation dedicated solely to cerebral palsy.
The Federation organised national-level training camps to prepare athletes for international competition. Athletes representing the Federation took part in events in Barcelona in 2017, where they won multiple medals, bringing distinction to the organisation and pride to Gujarat and India.
Since 2016, the Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of Gujarat has been affiliated with the national-level federation, and it remains a recognised body under the Sports Authority of Gujarat. Alongside its main work with athletes with cerebral palsy, the Federation has successfully conducted state-level Khel Mahakumbh events for athletes with six other categories of disabilities.
